MEDICAL SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Medical Social Services Department in National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala Kano was established in the year 1970. It was established to perform the statutory role of preventing and solving various Social, Psychological, Financial and family problems associated with Medical treatment. The department performs the roles of alleviating patients’ distress in the process of accessing medical treatment by creating conducive atmosphere for admission, treatment, recovery and follow-ups.
STATUTORY FUNCTIONS OF MEDICAL SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The department carries out the following activities as its statutory functions in National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala Kano.
Solicitation and Mobilization of fund to assist indigent patients
Alleviating/Resolving patients’ Psychological and emotional problems through counseling and psychotherapy.
Provision of needed social rehabilitation services to patients
Liaising with patients’ families, relations, friends and employers to solve patients’ problems.
Linking various formal, societal and governmental support systems to help in solving patients’ problems.
Contact tracing and repatriation of abandoned patients.
Provision of accommodation for transit patients and their relations.
Safekeeping of patients’ valuables
Home visits and follow-up to cases as the need arises.
Coordinating patients’ recreational activities.
Ensuring general social wellbeing of all patients while receiving treatment in the hospital.
