ABOUT THE UNIT
Staff clinic has been in existence since 1980 when the hospital was handed over to the orthopedic Hospital Management board. The clinic was initially located adjacent to the old account. The consultation period was 8am – 4pm on working days between 1980 and 1985. The clinic had Four (4) staff consisting of medical office in-charge Dr. (Mrs.) Evelyn L. Vera resigned and expatriated back to Philippine in 1983
Dr. (Mrs.) Mokelu Mary became the medical officer in-charge of the clinic in 1985. In 2006, the Hospital was accredited to offer both primary/secondary Healthcare under National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Hence, the clinic became NHIS/Staff clinic.
Dr. (Mrs.) Anako C.C. became the medical officer in-charge of the clinic in 2006 following retrenchment of Dr. (Mrs.). Mokelu Mary in 2006 public service reform.
In 2007, the staff strength of the clinic increased to eight (8) with employment of three (3) medical officers and posting of one (1) Assisting Chief Nursing officer. Hence, the consultation period in the clinic was extended to 9:00pm daily including weekend.
In September, 2010, NHIS/Staff Clinic was relocated to a segment of the current school of Orthopedic cast technology. Additional Three (3) medical officers; three (3) Nurses and two (2) Attendants were employed thereby increasing to the staff strength to fifteen (15). The clinic stated full coverage of 24 hours/day and 7 days/week.
In June 2013, the clinic was finally relocated to the current NHIS/Staff clinic complex, with nine (9) bed health care facility. The current staff strength is up to Thirty (30). Dr Suleiman Yakubu was appointed as the head of NHIS in December 2013
The functions of the clinic include but not limited to the following
- Antenatal Care/Delivery/Post natal care
- Outpatient and inpatient care for NHIS enrollees/staff and their families
- Outpatient and patient care for orthopedic patients with medical conditions
- Inpatient/outpatient general medical care for the members of the
- Minor surgeries
- Annual/periodic medical examination
- Family planning
- Immunization
- Wound dressing
- ECG investigation
- Continuing medical education/presentations
