PROFILE:
Bolaji Bosede Preh (Nee Banwo) was born in Kaduna State to the Family of Mr. & Mrs S. Banwo on 17^th November, 1963. She is from Delta State.

Pharm. (Mrs) B.B.Pheh is happily married to Mr.Tari Oruama Preh and they are blessed with children.

The Pharmacy department of the hospital was initially run by pharmacists being posted from ABU Teaching Hospital, Zaria on rotation.
Only one pharmacist took charge of the department until 1980 when three pharmacists were employed by the orthopaedic hospital management board.
The staff strength and patient attendance has gradually increased over the years.
The department now decentralized to eight units and responsible for sourcing, procuring, storage, distribution and dispensing of drugs to all the hospital patients and NHIS enrollees. The patients are adequately counselled as required. Compounding of extemporaneous preparations as needed.
The department operates a functional drug revolving fund scheme to sustain availability of affordable drugs.
The department provides drug information services to patients and other members of the healthcare team via its departmental literary and Drug Information unit.
Pharmacovigilance activities also take place.
The department is responsible for training of intern pharmacists and pharmacy students on industrial attachment. Pharmacy technician students are trained on practical experience.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE

The department comprises of the following units:

1. Pharmacy store: This ensures:

• Security of stock
• Storage of stoke at approved temperature and humidity
• Adequate documentation of receipt and issues on requisition
• All store records are well maintained to ensure re- order levels are adhered to preventing out of stock syndrome
• Stock management and administration

2. In-patient unit

This is where drugs are dispensed to all patients on admission in the hospital

3. Surgical out-patient unit

This caters for all out patients

4. National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Unit

This unit is responsible for all NHIS enrollees

5. Accident And Emergency Unit

The unit takes care of all emergency patients and is open 24 hours daily, weekends and public holidays

6. Drug Information Unit

This unit comprises the department library and information is disseminated to patient’s library and information is disseminated to patients and staff of the hospital.

7. Compounding Unit

Extemporaneous preparations are compounded in this unit as the need arises

8. Anaesthesia Pharmacy Unit

This unit attends to the anesthetic drugs required for patients listed for surgery
The pharmacists interact with all patients on one to one basis. This ensures that the patient is appropriately counselled. He understands why he has to take his drugs as prescribed, when to take them and with what kind of food. He is told what to expect and what to avoid while taking the medications. This enhance positive therapeutic outcomes.
Many of the staff are involved in academic pursuits and capacity building.
